Arianna Huffington

  

Arianna Huffington was born on July 15, 1950 in Athens, Greece. She is the daughter of a journalist and sister was an author. She went to Girton College in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and studied economics. She became president of the Cambridge Union. In 1971, Arianna was in Face the Music along side Bernard Levin, who she fell in love with. They traveled together around the world, and Huffington began writing books with his help. When she was 30 years old, Arianna was ready to marry and have children, but Levin was not on board for either. In 1980, she moved to New York and ended her relationship.

   

Immediately after, Huffington became the co-host alongside Bob Langley of BBC1’s late night entertainment show, Saturday Night At The Mill. Eventually, she was dropped. In 1983, she released a biography of one of the worlds best operas; Maria Callas: The Woman Behind the Legend. A few years later, Arianna married Michael Huffington, who was the secretary of U.S Department of Defense. They had two children. The two later divorced.

   

In 2003, Huffington ran against Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor of California, but ended up withdrawing. In 2005, she launched the online site, The Huffington Post, with co-founder Kenneth Lerner. The site was mostly known for its blogging, and news. However, over time the site was grown to cover more categories, such as sports, business and media. Three years later, it was named the most powerful blog in the world. While working on the blog, Huffington continued writing. In 2011, she sold her site to AOL for $300 million. In August 2016, she announced she would be leaving Huffington Post all together to launch her start up company, Thrive Global. Today, Ariannas advice to entrepreneurs is “get more sleep.
